South Florida really lucked out with Hurricane Dorian and avoided any real damage. Our neighbors to the south, however, were not so fortunate. The Bahamas suffered from massive amounts of damage and destruction. We made it a priority to donate to the area to help them get back to normal life as quickly as possible. 1. Keep emergency supplies like water, extra batteries, first aid supplies, etc. on hand now. The best time to shop for non-perishable hurricane items is now, before the rush prior to a looming storm.
2. Plan your evacuation route now. The earlier you make these arrangements the better, as this will alleviate confusion and frantic behavior before the next hurricane.
3. Take inventory of all important documents and store them in an easily accessible location.
4. Go through the exterior of your home and take care of issues in areas like the roof, landscaping, doors and windows, and any potentially hazardous item on the outside of the home.
5. Go over your insurance policies now and make sure you fully understand your coverage.

Instead of running to Publix to scour the empty shelves when the next hurricane is announced, do it now and avoid the stress and anxiety of last minute purchases.
