Avoiding Home Property Damage in the New Year

1/6/2020 (Permalink)

January is a prime time to focus your efforts on keeping your home and property safe.

Property damage strikes a home for many different reasons and often at unexpected times. With the New Year just beginning, it is common to start making resolutions that will serve to improve yourself and those around you. But what about making resolutions for your home? A person’s home is where they spend the majority of their time and, for that reason, home improvement should be at the top of your list when it comes to bettering yourself this year.

January is a prime time to focus your efforts on keeping your home and property safe. While damage caused by water, fire, and mold is unavoidable at times, taking specific steps to keep things in tiptop shape will help tremendously.

Consider getting the following home improvement action items done this month:

  • Go over your home emergency plan and make any necessary updates and adjustments
  • Take stock of your home’s safety equipment, ensuring that items like flashlights, first-aid kits, and backup medicine and food are in good condition
  • Find the water supply line in your house and be sure that you know how to turn it off in the event of an emergency
  • Walk your home to check on all of your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors batteries

While these tasks may seem menial, they are extremely important to do. In addition to the above items, your January resolutions should focus on one home improvement that you have been meaning to accomplish. Whether that means getting the roof cleaned or redoing a bathroom, concentrating on one specific task will help to get it done.

At SERVPRO of North Palm Beach County we are looking forward to a wonderful 2020 year! The New Year means new opportunities to serve our community and all of its water, fire, and mold damage needs. Contact our office today to speak with our residential and commercial restoration specialists.
