Mold Growing in Your Shower

If you are a homeowner in South Florida, dealing with mold growth in your bathroom is nothing new. With so much moisture in one small room, mold and mildew are nearly inevitable at one point or another. Mold can form virtually anywhere in a bathroom – from down in the tile all the way to the ceiling. Some of the most common areas for mold growth include:
- Shower
- Bathtub
- Sink
- Toilet
The dark, damp, and humid components of a typical bathroom make it the ideal location for mildew and mold to grow and thrive. In addition, bathrooms without proper ventilation are hubs for mold to flourish, as the moisture lingers and thus creates an ideal location for mildew to sprout. Bathroom rugs and carpets are also hotspots for mold to develop.
Shower mold growth is particularly common. If left untreated, it can develop into a costly issue for both your wallet and your health. Prevention is the key to stopping mold growth in your shower. Keep the following tips in mind for keeping your bathroom in top shape:
- Wash bathroom rugs regularly
- Use a mold-resistant shower curtain
- Use the ventilation fan in the bathroom anytime the bath or shower is in use, as well as 30 minutes after bath/shower is finished
- Try to keep the humidity level below 50 percent
- Address any leaks right away
- Squeegee your shower walls right after you shower
- Store your shower items like shampoo, soap, etc. outside of the shower
- Use all-purpose cleaner weekly
- Wipe all wet areas dry
- Use glass cleaner for the bathroom mirrors and windows
The above tips will make a big difference in helping to keep your bathroom mold-free. Preventing the growth of mold is the best method, as it saves money and potential health effects.
